Workshop Details

It’s almost time for the SAC workshop! Workshop registration starts tomorrow at 8:30, in the Georgia Tech TSRB building. The SAC workshop is in room 133. The workshop itself will go from 9-5, with plenty of breaks in between. If you have any questions, I’m in town today. E-mail me or call me at 407-325-3581. Guest Presentation from Georgia Tech’s Mark Riedl

Great news for SAC attendees. Georgia Tech’s Mark Riedl has agreed to give a guest presentation titled “Semi-Automated Creativity Support: The Georgia Tech Landscape.” Mark is widely recognized researcher in Intelligent Narrative Computing and an all around nice guy. The abstract for the talk is below:

In 2005 Todd Lubart described four ways that computational systems can augment human creativity: nanny, pen-pal, coach, and colleague. I argue that the list is incomplete, and provide a more comprehensive list of metaphors for how computational systems–especially intelligent systems–can augment human creativity. With this extended ontology, I tour recent research at Georgia Tech involving semi-automated systems designed to support creativity.

SAC Workshop Participants Have Been Chosen

9 submissions have been accepted to the SAC workshop! There will be 14 participants talking about topics ranging from music composition to personalized manufacturing. It’s going to be an exciting workshop. And, to sweeten the deal, some authors from the C&C workshops will be invited to submit extended versions for a special issue of the Knowledge Management-E-learning (KM-EL) journal.

Extension for SAC Workshop Submission!

Good news for those who are thinking about submitting to the SAC workshop but won’t have a position paper ready for today. Because of requests from potential participants, the submission deadline has been extended to July 15th. For those who submit by today, you will receive an answer before July 25th. For those who submit after, you’ll hear back by August 10th. Please e-mail sac@computationalcreativity.org if you have any questions. Good luck!

Paper submission for the SAC workshop in C&C 2011 is now open! Please send an extended abstract of up to 4 pages to sac@computationalcreativity.org about how you are using or extending machine learning, data mining, AI or related techniques to engage humans as creative peers. Papers are due July 5th, and you will be notified of acceptance by July 25th. You can find the extended abstract describing the spirit of the workshop here: SAC Extended Abstract.

Workshop on Semi-Automated Creativity

The workshop on Semi-Automated Creativity will happen in conjunction with the Creativity and Cognition 2011 conference, and will focus on how machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques can help transform software’s role from handling the mundane chores of creative design to being engaged as a peer. This workshop builds upon a previous one called Computational Creativity Support, which was held at CHI 2009.
